Queen for a Day!

All of us have little things that our mother's used to say (or still say) that have stuck in in minds over the years. One Mother's Day, my mom gave me a little book called "Momilies, As My Mother Used to Say...", by Michele Slung. I'm going to share a few of my favorites with you today.

Nothing worthwhile happens after midnight.

If somebody else's mother lets him jump off the Empire State Building, would you want me to let you do it, too?

Be careful what you wish for; you might get it.

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

So it's raining? You're not sugar -- you won't melt.

Why do you think I have gray hair?

Always put toilet paper on the seat.

Don't go into dark alleys.

Don't cross your eyes of they will freeze that way.

Don't wear good underwear to the doctor or your bill will be higher.

Don't put beans up your nose.

Horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glow.

Put on clean underwear in the morning in case you're in an accident.

The important thing is to get a good bra.

Let me feel your forehead.

If it didn't taste bad, it wouldn't be medicine.

It's not what you wear; it's who your are.

Get your hair out of your eyes.

It will never heal if you pick at it.

And my personal favorites: Only sluts wear half slips and nice girls don't wear ankle bracelets!
Pat yourself on the back today for doing one of the hardest jobs on Earth: being a mom. Whether it's to your own children, step-children, grandchildren, etc., it is the hardest and the most rewarding. I declare that you all are "Queen for a Day" today and every other day too! M.

Love it Martha! I remember some of those...I have one...Don't eat that orange peel, you'll grow an orange in your stomach! And we believed them all!!

Hope you had a great day!

Those are the momilies my mom told me so I of course told them to my kids!!
I thought it was the watermelon seeds that would grow a watermelon if you swallowed them...
But what about swallowing gum?? It would stay in you stomach for 7 years!!
JOY!

Hello Martha, Love the list . . . my personal favorite is "careful what you wish for, because you just might get it." I think I say that once a week LOL.

Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.

My mother persistently said "Stand up straight!"

Well, I guess I'm a slut, because I wore half slips forever because I hated the way the straps would fall on whole slips. I hate that about bras too. We need notches in our shoulder.

I remember all of those too with the exception of the slut slip ...I have repeated most of them and that's pretty funny but sad...my mother used to say this one...If you stand pigeontoed, your feet would stay that way...Iused to tell my daughter the gum one until she saw Mythbusters!

A list full of trues, Martha!
Even in spanish the make sense...the more magic is "careful what you wish for, because you just might get it." This is absolutely true, the universe just listen to you....just wish it hard!
