Treasure Hunting

After such a great show at Molly Mo's Antique Faire, I have been in search of new pieces for upcoming events. I didn't have much success at the usual estate/garage sales - except for one that was great. So Sunday, Diane (Molly Mo's) and I hit the highway early to shop the Oregon City Antique Show.

Finally, some great stuff to fill my space at the Coburg Antique Faire on September 13th! I managed to pick up some great pieces: a little desk/hall table, a creamy, wonderful old cabinet, a flaky, white bench, and many little odds and ends to entice you.

Following the Coburg show, the Deepwood Antique Faire will be held on September 20th, and the Tarte Boutique Flea on September 26th. I will be offering my new Fall/Halloween items at Coburg and at the Tarte Flea in addition to more new found treasures. Stay tuned for more info on these upcoming events. M.

A Day in the Country at Molly Mo's Antique Faire !

I don't think it could have been a more perfect day! The weather was wonderful and there were an abundance of shoppers! In fact, I have never seen so many happy shoppers at Molly Mo's. There were cars parked down the road(s) and they just kept coming - all day!!!

Sunflowers seemed to be a theme this year. It must be a good year for them because I've seen them everywhere and they are just beautiful in their own rustic way.

This is Suzette. She is the first in a sisterhood of smaller mannequins that I will be showing this year. Meet one of her sisters (Esmerelda) at my next show in Coburg. "Essie" will be getting into the Halloween spirit!

This little celebration cake is another new creation. You will find more of these little "cakes" at Coburg. I received word last week that my "Angel Cake" is being published in the Nov/Dec Somerset Studio issue. Watch for it!

My pillows were a hot item. I will be making more of them for Coburg as well!

This little shopper completed her ensemble with one of my tiaras and fairy wands. Too cute!

You are the best! Please come to Coburg, Oregon on September 13th and visit us all again at the annual Coburg Antique Faire. Molly Mo's Summer Antique Faire Coming Soon!

It has been a crazy-busy summer. Lots of home improvement projects, lots of company, lots of work. I think it is time to buckle down and get some new things made! I do have a couple of new pieces to share with you at Molly Mo's Antique Faire which is coming up really soon - August 22nd !!! Check her blog for updates, vendor info and sneak-peaks.

My hubby and I are taking a couple of days to sneak away before he has to go back to work/school. As soon as we return I will be cranking out NEW STUFF to hopefully tempt and tease you out to Molly M0's in Sublimity. I will also begin posting again. I have heard from so many of you - wondering what the heck has happened to me. Nothing bad, just lots of things to do, and so on. I will bring you up-to-date on the guest room paint choice, share a picture of my first attempt to create a slipcover, thoughts and pics of my wonderful visit with my BBF from Kansas, and date of upcoming shows where I can be found! Also, I just found out I will have a Halloween project published in the Sep/Oct Somerset Studio!

Anyway, keep checking back for more and I think I'm back on track - so... more soon! M.

Happy Independence Day !

Guest Room Update: The painting is completed. I will relay that process over the weekend when I have a little more time. I'll also provide some "before" and "after" pictures. Thank you to everyone that provided tips and paint formulas. It really helped when I as wondering if I was on the right track. You guys are great!

My wishes for a safe and happy 4th of July to all! AND - remember our four-footed, fuzzy friends that don't always find noisy celebrations to be as much fun as we do. They need special care and attention. M.

the perfect shade of a little blue egg ...

For some time I have wanted to paint my guest room a soft, soft shade of robin's egg blue. I have found several accessories to place in the room once it is painted. I even found a bed coverlet that will look great. The problem? Finding the right shade of blue.

I bought a sample that I just knew would be it. Wrong. Way, too aqua. How could that be? It looked absolutely perfect in the jar! Then, I remembered seeing a picture of a Martha Stewart color: sea spray blue. So off I went to Lowe's for another sample. After looking through all the chips, I ended up with two samples: sea spray blue and apothecary jar. One of these had to be it. Wrong again - well maybe not really wrong. Either would probably work fine, but it's not what I saw in my head. So I mixed equal parts of both samples and tried that. Too gray. Probably the color of some egg, just not the one I see when I close my eyes.


By this time the bedroom walls looked like an aqua patchwork quilt! My poor husband is afraid he will have to look at a minty toothpaste color or seafoam green. I keep reassuring him it will be fine. I usually can just pick out a paint chip and that is it. I have a reputation to uphold here and it's on the line. Plus, I have guests coming in a few weeks and I would like the paint to be dry when they arrive!

So, I went in search of items that were the perfect shade. Off I went - again - to the paint store with an assortment of "samples" for them to put in that little machine that tells you what the "perfect" color really is. If they could just capture the color of a vintage spool of silky thread that is in my workroom or the antique collar I used in this collage!

Not possible to cram either the thread or the collage into that little machine. So we used a scrap of wrapping paper. It still seemed a little intense so the "formula" was halved in intensity. I took a deep breath and with my head in my hands said, "Mix it." It is hard to be so picky. I should know. I've been this way for as long as I can remember.

The sample smear on the can lid looked like we had "it". I could hardly wait to get home and brush some over areas with the previous samples. well, I'm still not 100% sure, but I decided that it is just paint. If I get done and I don't like it - there is always more paint. Right? I'll report back after I paint on Sunday. - M. PS Think positive for me and say a little prayer to the paint gods - okay? Thanks.
