Fun on the Fourth

My sweet husband got up reeeaally early with me on July 4th to help me set up my tent, etc. at Old Stuff on Main Street in Silverton. Not long after we arrived, we were greeted by Joy (who organized the event) and given a little breakfast treat of blueberry coffee cake, juicy grapes and coffee. Yum! It didn't take long for us to get the tent up and everything else unloaded. I didn't take large pieces of furniture, so had to create an interesting area using tables and table coverings. I could have sold the old, gauzey curtains that I use as over-cloths many, many times throughout the day - but didn't. I'm kind of attached to them. And, of course, I didn't get a picture of them, but here is my mannequin all dolled-up for the 4th!It was a shock to a few because I never have red! I couldn't resist - the day called for it. We didn't get the showers that were predicted (whew!), but we did get a few gusts of wind that caught me off guard. My pot of branches and birds almost took off a couple of times! It ended up leaning a bit, but the metal birds hung around. Luckily, none of the quail eggs bit the dust.

This stack of sweet, old suitcases found new homes ....
and a bride-to-be will be using some of these soft posies for her special day!
Many old friends were there and I met a few new ones. There were so many people and dogs!!! Next year I will take treats for all the new, fuzzy-faced, four-footed friends I made. It was a great show and very well attended. I look forward to doing it again next year. Here are some pictures of lovely things: creamy platters - Diane (Molly Mo's), prom dress - Joy (Aunties) and charms - Sheila (Halo Hill), a collection of bottles - Sue, fabulous quilts - Carol, and handmade Americana -Stephanie (The Hearts of Hartmann).

Silverton provided a truly an old-fashioned, July 4th celebration which was refreshing and delightful! I only wished I had taken time to take pictures of the older gentlemen of the town. They spent the day watching the crowd from the sidewalk benches. It truly reminded me of a slower, simplier time where people gathered as a community to visit, enjoy good food and celebrate the day with more than a bunch of fireworks at the end of the day. Hope you had a wonderful celebration and a safe journey home. M.

Hi Martha -
It would have been fun to join you in Silverton but I don't think my family would have appreciated my disappearance. They were all at my house. It looks like you had a great time and had some great things to share with folks who needed them. Maybe I can join the fun next year.
