Costume Craziness

I have always loved to make costumes. When my son came along, I was thrilled to get to dream up something unique and fun. He didn't always think my ideas were going to be very good (translated - scarey), but once the costume was finished and face paint applied, he liked what Mom created. It took about 10 years, for him not to worry that it would turn out looking stupid. There was one year when he wanted to be a Ninja Turtle. He thought I was crazy when I made a paper mache turtle shell using newspaper strips and glue over a large balloon. After it was shaped and painted, I attached it to his plastic He-Man breast plate. It was pretty cool. Then there was the mummy year. That was a hard sell, but once again, Mom did okay. It is amazing what a torn sheet and cheese cloth can do. Add some dried leaves, cob webs, and face paint and voila - Mr. Mummy. By the time we got to the year of the Headless Horseman (without the horse) he thought Mom did pretty good work!

I thought I would share some of the costumes with you. The best part of all the costume making was working on it together. We didn't always agree and there had to be some give and take, but the outcome was usually successful.

One year he and his best friend came up with the idea of being Syncronized Swimmers! I said buddy you are on your own. They found the "gear" and made printed Swim Team t-shirts. They even created a "swim" routine. We laughed until we cried!

Pretty scarey - huh?!? Hope you create many happy Halloween memories this year! M.

Sparkley Vintage Babies

I finally have something to show you!!! I've been working on many things this past week, but these little babies are my most favorite. They will be available at our Holiday Treasures show on November 7 & 8 (see info to the left).

If you are not able to visit us there and would like one of these little cuties for your very own, just email me and I can take an order. In a few days I will place some of them in my Etsy store.

I just need more hours in the day, more energy and more hands! More items to come in a few days. M.

Work Day #1

A few days ago, my friend Diane (Molly Mo's) and I had our first work day to label and mail our show postcards and begin making items for our November 7 & 8 Holiday Treasures show.

It started late last Thursday afternoon with Diane and I delivering postcards around Salem. Diane stayed for a sleep-over since she lives a little distance away from me. We had crock pot steak soup and watched the SNL mid-week update while we applied labels and stamps to about 900 postcards. We we "hit the hay" about 11:00 p.m. so we could get up at 5:30 to go to an estate sale in Lebanon. Lebanon is about 35-40 minutes south east of Salem. This estate sale was supposed to be fabulous with years of stuff stacked to the rafters. Not exactly so, but we found a few things to take home. After stopping for some breakfast, we headed to my workroom to get busy on projects for our show.

Diane brought boxes of treasures. I couldn't resist sharing some images of them. Just looking at them in their old boxes creates inspiration.
Diane worked dilligently to make some small crowns which turned out wonderful.

I, however, didn't really get anything accomplished. Well, I take that back. I worked on a couple of snowmen that will probably stay on the storage shelf. The old mojo just wasn't kicking in that day. I was actually more successful the night before when I was labeling and stamping postcards! There are some days (weeks) when you should not try to make anything. At least for me, it is just a waste of time, energy, and supplies. On top of that, it is darned frustrating when usually things just happen effortlessly - well - almost effortlessly. So, that is why you aren't seeing any picures of my creations in this post. Hopefully, Diane will be the only living soul to see what I made that day! Since then, I have gotten some of my positive energy back. I will share some pictures of new things in a couple of days and place some Christmas items on my Etsy store. Please check back and see what I have been up to! M.

Today, I'm off to work. Yesterday I was home with my nemesis, Mr. Migraine. I've been fighting with him since last Wednesday. Finally had enough yesterday and went to the doctor. As a result, I'm a day behind in everything and still a little fuzzy in the head. Just when you think you know how tosend him on his way, he finds a new way to hang around. I know there are many things that are much worse, so I am thankful that is all I have to deal with.
Until tomorrow, enjoy another wonderful fall day and check back for the give away results! M.
