Vets, Vacation, and Great Finds

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. We spent some time at the vet(s), rested a few days, worked a few days, hit some estate sales (great stuff!) and now, trying to get some things made for the next few shows coming up.

Eventually I will post some pictures of the things I have found. Every so often you walk into a great sale - so great you can't see over the pile of stuff in your arms. That is when I'm really thankful that my husband wanted to come along! He is so good to take stuff to the SUV and carry the heavy things. I found a tulle underskirt from an old wedding dress, a fragile satin hoop skirt from another wedding dress, a sweet small camel-back trunk, a shopping cart (that will get a custom liner), a concrete bird bath, feather pillows, an old typewriter, a soft blue coverlet, a creamy white wool blanket, creamy white ironstone dishes .... what a haul!!!

To back up a little, I want to thank everyone for their sweet comments from my last post. You guys are great and I appreciate your kind words.

About the trips to the vet. Miss Zoe evidently had a reaction to something. We don't know what as she hasn't had any changes in diet, things in her environment, so on and so on. Regardless of what it was, it knocked her for a loop. After several trips to the vet(s), (one being the emergency clinic one night at 11:30 - that's scary), she is feeling better - but not completely well. She will be on Prednisone and an antibiotic for a while longer. In addition, she gets drops in her ears to counteract any yeast infection as a result of being on the antibiotic. No - the vet said we couldn't put yogurt in her ears. Doesn't work that way with dogs. Anyway, it would have been really messy and she would have wanted to eat it. Sorry, I digressed. We are hoping that she will be 100% soon, but she gave us a scare. She got to go to Central Oregon with us, but she slept most of the time since we were instructed to give her massive amounts of Benedryl along with the prednisone. Eat, sleep, drink, potty, drink and sleep -- you get it. Poor baby. If they could just tell us what is wrong.

The trip to Central Oregon was great (except for the sick pooch). We did almost the same thing that I mentioned Zoe did above! We got up to sunny, blue skies with the mountains in the background.

Enjoyed watching a young deer that decided that we were friendly...

Stared at the mountains some more ...

and just enjoyed this special place that we have been able to visit over the last 7 years. Someday the owners with retire and live here full-time, but until then we are grateful for every chance we get to enjoy its beautiful setting.

We have many wonderful memories of spending time here with our family and my son's friends (who might as well be family). Great food, card playing, watching football, playing pool and ping-pong, long walks and reading many a book. We have definitely been spoiled and are very grateful for the opportunity to have had so many great times in this special, special place! M.

Remembering

Earlier this week, my family attended a memorial service for my aunt. She had coped with Parkinson's much longer than anyone should have to. We know she is now free and in a much better place. We gathered at the home she shared with my uncle for many years and celebrated and remembered her. Since my parents have been gone for a number of years, my aunt and uncle's home has been very special to me and I always look forward to visiting. It has always been filled with unique items that were gifts or keepsakes collected on their travels. I slipped away from all the relatives took some pictures of a few of my favorite things that will always remind me of my aunt. I will be going back often to see my uncle, but I am afraid that someday, these special treasures will go elsewhere. These images will remind me of her.

Tomorrow, my hubby and I will be taking Miss Zoe and heading for Central Oregon for a few days. It is a much needed respite. I plan to take walks, stare at the mountains, nap and read. There will be good food, wine and no doubt a couple of gin and tonics! I'll share some pictures when we return later this week. M.

Fun on the Fourth

My sweet husband got up reeeaally early with me on July 4th to help me set up my tent, etc. at Old Stuff on Main Street in Silverton. Not long after we arrived, we were greeted by Joy (who organized the event) and given a little breakfast treat of blueberry coffee cake, juicy grapes and coffee. Yum! It didn't take long for us to get the tent up and everything else unloaded. I didn't take large pieces of furniture, so had to create an interesting area using tables and table coverings. I could have sold the old, gauzey curtains that I use as over-cloths many, many times throughout the day - but didn't. I'm kind of attached to them. And, of course, I didn't get a picture of them, but here is my mannequin all dolled-up for the 4th!It was a shock to a few because I never have red! I couldn't resist - the day called for it. We didn't get the showers that were predicted (whew!), but we did get a few gusts of wind that caught me off guard. My pot of branches and birds almost took off a couple of times! It ended up leaning a bit, but the metal birds hung around. Luckily, none of the quail eggs bit the dust.

This stack of sweet, old suitcases found new homes ....
and a bride-to-be will be using some of these soft posies for her special day!
Many old friends were there and I met a few new ones. There were so many people and dogs!!! Next year I will take treats for all the new, fuzzy-faced, four-footed friends I made. It was a great show and very well attended. I look forward to doing it again next year. Here are some pictures of lovely things: creamy platters - Diane (Molly Mo's), prom dress - Joy (Aunties) and charms - Sheila (Halo Hill), a collection of bottles - Sue, fabulous quilts - Carol, and handmade Americana -Stephanie (The Hearts of Hartmann).

Silverton provided a truly an old-fashioned, July 4th celebration which was refreshing and delightful! I only wished I had taken time to take pictures of the older gentlemen of the town. They spent the day watching the crowd from the sidewalk benches. It truly reminded me of a slower, simplier time where people gathered as a community to visit, enjoy good food and celebrate the day with more than a bunch of fireworks at the end of the day. Hope you had a wonderful celebration and a safe journey home. M.

Takin' My Stuff to Old Stuff

I can't believe that its been over a week since my last post! Between getting ready for my July 4 antique show and my job, time has flown! Tomorrow, I will be joining my antiquey friends: Joy, Diane and Sue at Old Stuff on Main Street in Silverton, Oregon. It is a small town about 30 minutes east of where we live in Salem. Very quaint and sweet. I think the weather is going to cooperate so maybe everyone will venture out and have a great time.

Have a safe and happy 4th and I'll take pictures to share later this weekend!
